Megan's Law Megan's Law is named in memory of seven-year-old Megan Kankas, a seven-year-old little girl from New Jersey who was raped and killed by a known child molester who had moved across the street from her family without their knowledge. Megan's Law requires the registration of certain sexual offenders and provides the public with information on their whereabouts so that the state, local cities, towns and residents can take steps to protect themselves. The Dunmore Police is dedicated to enforcing the boroughs Megan's Law residency ordinance. Statistically speaking, a large majority of Sexual Predators Recidivate, meaning, that they re-enter the criminal justice system for similar offenses. When the Police department receives report of a registered Sex Offender, the department generates a file, checks the residence and when necessary enforces prohibited zone violations.
